An novel approach to the combination of AFM with optical spectroscopy May 18, 2005
|
During recent years a novel trend in optical spectroscopy techniques
has emerged that makes use of the particular properties of nanometer
scale objects. Of particular interest is the interaction of an AFM
tip with a sample within an external optical field. Special attention
has been devoted to surface (tip) enhanced Raman spectroscopy and
to the manipulation of single molecules and particles with simultaneous
single molecule fluorescence. JPK Instruments addresses this matter
introducing the Tip Assisted Optics (TAO) module as an add-on to
the NanoWizard® AFM. go

JPK Instruments Offers
Advanced Product for Combined AFM and Fluorescence
June 24, 2004
|
With the new option for an infrared light source JPK Instruments
completes its product range for the combination of atomic force
microscopy (AFM) techniques with advanced fluorescence imaging.
Conventional AFM makes use of red laser light sources for the detection
of the forces acting on the AFM tip. Stray light of this lightsource
can impose restrictions when fluorescence observations in the red
spectral range are desired for FRET, TIRF, LSM, or other techniques.
Therefore, a new lightsource and detection path was designed with
a laser lightsource of 850nm wavelength. This light is easily blocked
off the detection path of fluorescence microscopes by spectral filtering.

Profitable after only
six month November 26, 2002
|
After only six month since the release of its first product, the
NanoWizard AFM, JPK Instruments will enter the profit zone
in the fourth quarter of 2002. Due to the great demand for its products
the company also expects to finish the financial year 2003 with
a positive result.
By reaching profitability after such a short time the venture capital-funded
company represents a groundbreaking novelty within the nano(bio)technology
sector. Normally for most enterprises in this area it takes years
of intensive development efforts to turn the results of research
into marketable products. Contrary to this JPK as a so-called pick-and-shovel-maker
for the Life Science sector is already generating substantial turnover.
The company will further extend its business activities on the basis
of novel and innovative product solutions. |
